Perhaps time to start using Stop Forum Spam in KT forums too.

Not sure we can do that, since it's phpBB ver. 2.0.22...
There's a ver. 2.0.23 available, but I don't dare upgrading...

Bob (aka Greyhead) actually ported this forum to the kerkythea.org domain, where we had installed a newer version of Joomla as well as phpBB ver. 3.0.6, however, as you may know, Giannis didn't want the kerkythea.org domain and everything Bob made was wasted... :|
Cheers

With a quick look 2.0.23 is bug fixes and some admin panel changes
http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 4&t=772285
"It is important that you carry out both parts of the update - updating the files and running the database update script - for updates to be complete."
But as 2.0.23 is last of 2.x and is no longer supported, I think it would be better to conver the forum to phpBB3 http://www.phpbb.com/community/docs/INS ... ml#convert

...It's shame that Bob's work was lost.

 Every day I am more worried of KT site. Mainly as phpBB2 is really old... and not even latest build. I would feel much better if forum would be updated to phpBB3.

Today I've needed to ban and delete 5 users posting about virus infection in various sections of our forum... :x
I really don't know what we can do about this... :?

Have to agree with you guys...
Every day I'm getting more and more worried...

Hm... Should we update to phpbb3?

I know it will need work afterwards for the template but...

Or at least to latest 2.0.23? - these updates are relatively easy and I could do it in a couple of hours.

Ok, forget about phpbb3 because this will need LOT of work. The worst thing of all is that the bridge between site & phpbb won't work anymore!

But where is 2.0.23? I search it on http://www.phpbb.com/downloads/ site but no luck!

As 2.x is no longer supported, better look at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpbb/files/

Perhasp implement a bit tighter registration system, there is no even a security question in use... http://recaptcha.net/plugins/phpbb/ and if possible (can't rememebr if phpBB2 have it) turn on first post approval rule.

The problem is the bridge between joomla & phpbb. Only for that, installation of 2.0.23 is a bit risky (have to check all files to see which have been modified...)

About first post question, I don't think it is supported in phpbb 2.x

There is a reCAPTCHA phpBB2 Plugin, perhaps better than nothing
http://recaptcha.net/plugins/phpbb/

The modification I made to the Twilight Render forum could probably be ported to a phpBB2 forum. You would just need to find the right place where new users are verified against the existing email / username ban list, then add a call to the stop forum spam website, and parse the results. It's ultimately really straight forward, the only question is about where to hook in the check.
